Community Education/ WIC Coordinator

The Community Education Coordinator Director is responsible for the developing and implementing community education events and programs in the Bristol Bay area. This position also oversees the Women, Infant, Children (WIC) program. The Coordinator will work with other programs, departments and agencies and Village Tribal programs to develop an increased awareness and participation in healthier lifestyles, self care skills and overall disease prevention by the people of the Bristol Bay Area.
Qualifications
A Registered Dietitian. Prefer prior WIC Program experience or experience in a related field such as Maternal Child Health.
Preferred rural Alaska experience educational background.
Must be a self-starter with good managerial skills.
Strong grant implementation experience necessary.
Must possess cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity to growth and development over the life span (pediatric/adult/geriatric) of patients/clients and possess the ability to evaluate patient’s/client’s condition, interpret patient information, identify patient’s needs and provide appropriate age-specific care according to established policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
Works with the Grant Writer to complete the WIC proposal for state funding each year. Administers the BBAHC WIC Program as described in the state contract.
Prepares and submits all program and budget reports required by the state WIC Office and BBAHC in a timely manner.
Provides nutrition counseling for WIC clients. Documents in the WIC SPIRIT computer system as required.
Counsels all high-risk WIC clients at least twice during their certification periods. Develops and individualized care plan.
Develops and implements village outreach plan to increase WIC caseload.
Provides WIC orientation and training for vendor personnel. Monitors WIC vendors in accordance with state requirements.
Develops and implements health education community events throughout Bristol Bay.
Coordinates with other programs to increase outreach in the community.
Assists in the development and distribution of health educational pamphlets, posters, etc. utilizing for the Health Education Department and other departments as requested.
Update the education/promotional messages in the Outpatient Lobby and coordinate with other departments within BBAHC to ensure that all departments are represented when appropriate.
Performs other duties as deemed necessary.
